Shit on my mind.

BACKGROUND:
I am a 4th year college student and I have realized many people who attend a university seem to stray away from the idea of religion and belief in Jesus and God, but I have indeed gained a stronger belief in Jesus and the Christian religion. (ALTHOUGH I DO NOT BELIEVE IN DENOMINATIONS) Not only have I gained stronger belief in my Christ, I have become more aware of issues occuring in my own society, especially in the Black community.

FIRST THING IS FIRST:
SLAVERY STILL EXISTS. The history books tells us that slavery ended around the Civil War, but I am strong believer that slavery still exists and feel the Black community should know it. (THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT A RACIAL THING, TRUST ME). And I do not mean slavery in a sense of being in shackles, chains, and working on plantations, I mean slavery as being one person having absolute power, and I do not mean Obama.

I WILL KEEP IT SHORT AND SIMPLE
Slavery allowed Africans, Afro-Americans NOT African an emphasis on AFRO , Blacks and Creoles, to have dignity, courage, inspiration, and goals to create a better life for themseleves beyond the oppression and servitude etc., but with times progression the Black community have forgotten the history and influence of slavery. Because of slavery the Americas "The New World" was able to become an economic success (BASICALLY ECONOMICALLY RICH DUE TO SLAVES), but now we have allowed an absolute power tell us we are lazy, should live on welfare, should be in prisons, should be drug dealers, and should be rappers. Basically living up to the stereotypes of typical Black people and I use the term Black losely. (W.E.B Do Bois said those who classify themselves as Black are lost) Not my words. But I found it interesting.  I HAVE NOT MADE MY POINT YET AND DO NOT PLAN ON IT FOR A WHILE.
Check out Ira Berlins article on Time and Space.
Do we literally need to be slaves again for us to not live up to the stereotypes and actually POSITIVELY contribute to our society economically, socially, spiritually, financially and all the other "allys" there are?
I THOUGHT WITH OBAMA BEING PRESIDENT THE BLACK COMMUNITY WOULD WANT TO BETTER THEMSELVES, BUT FROM MY OBSERVATIONS MY HYPOTHESIS WAS IN CORRECT.
I do not mean to offend anyone, especially if you are not part of the group I am talking about, but in reality you probably are because I find myself sometimes being enslaved in what the absolute power tells me I should be.
Thank you for your time.
I have yet to begun.
Shawn
